The Calanques National Park was officially created on April 18, 2012 — it is now the only European park that is simultaneously peri-urban, terrestrial, insular, and marine. Its protected core covers 8,500 hectares of land between La Ciotat and Marseille, with an additional 43,500 hectares at sea.
