Welcome to the Vosges, a department of mountains, lakes and forests in the heart of the Grand Est region. From Gérardmer (Pearl of the Vosges, lake, ski resorts, waterfalls) to La Bresse (largest ski area in the north-east, Lac des Corbeaux, Hohneck) and Remiremont (abbey of the canonesses, arcades, Moselle), passing through Épinal (City of Images, Image Museum — Épinal imagery, Saint-Maurice Basilica), Saint-Dié-des-Vosges (town where America got its name, International Geography Festival), Vittel and Plombières-les-Bains (spa towns, Belle Époque architecture) and the Route des Crêtes (panoramas, high pastures, farm-inns), the Vosges combine gentle mountains, crystalline lakes, thermalism and traditions. Treat yourself to a romantic weekend in a love room with a private jacuzzi in the most romantic massif of the East. Neighboring departments: Meurthe-et-Moselle (54), Meuse (55), Bas-Rhin (67), Haut-Rhin (68), Haute-Saône (70) and Territoire de Belfort (90).

Nicknamed the Pearl of the Vosges, Gérardmer charms with its lake (the largest natural lake in the Vosges — 115 ha, clear waters, beaches, boat trips, walk or cycle around the lake), its waterfalls (Saut des Cuves, Cascade de Retournemer, Cascade de Tendon — the highest in the Vosges at 32 m), its ski slopes (La Mauselaine domain, alpine and Nordic skiing) and its friendly mountain resort atmosphere. The Fête des Jonquilles (biennial, flower floats — largest flower festival in Eastern France) and the fantastic film festival enliven the town. Treat yourself to a room with a private jacuzzi in Gérardmer overlooking the lake.
A dynamic mountain resort, La Bresse offers the largest ski area in north-eastern France (La Bresse-Hohneck — 34 slopes, 220 km of Nordic ski trails), the Lac des Corbeaux (glacial lake surrounded by fir trees, one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Vosges — swimming, hiking), the Hohneck (1,363 m, third highest peak in the Vosges, panoramic view of the Plain of Alsace and the Black Forest) and the farm-inns of the high pastures (marcaire meal — pie, roïgabrageldi, farm munster cheese, blueberries). An authentic mountain setting in all seasons.
Prefecture of the Vosges, Épinal is the City of Images: the Musée de l'Image (largest collection of popular imagery in the world — Épinal imagery since 1796, prints, colored plates), the Imagerie d'Épinal (visitable workshop-museum, old-fashioned printing), the Basilique Saint-Maurice (Romanesque and Gothic, 11th-13th century), the Parc du Cours (shaded walk along the Moselle) and the castle (medieval ruins, panorama). The Moselle flows through the city and offers bucolic walks.
It was in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in 1507 that cartographer Martin Waldseemüller first gave the name "America" to the New World in his Cosmographiae Introductio. The city hosts the annual International Geography Festival (FIG — the largest geography event in the world). The cathedral (Romanesque and Gothic, cloister), the Tour de la Liberté (metal structure, modern art museum) and the surrounding forests (Ormont massif, Roche d'Anel) complete this city of culture and nature.
An elegant town on the Moselle, Remiremont is marked by its abbey of canonesses (one of the most prestigious noble chapters in Europe, abbatial palace, church with Romanesque crypt), its arcaded streets (17th-18th century, shops), the Parc du Calvaire (panorama of the valley) and the banks of the Moselle (walks). Gateway to the upper Moselle valley and the Ballons des Vosges.
A city of art and history, Neufchâteau charms with its Renaissance staircases (Hôtel de Houéville — one of the most beautiful Renaissance staircases in Lorraine), the Saint-Nicolas church (Gothic, polychrome entombment), the Saint-Christophe church (Romanesque crypt) and its connection with Joan of Arc (who took refuge there in 1428). The city is in the heart of the Vosgian Lorraine, between hills, forests and stone villages.
The Route des Crêtes (created in 1914-1918, 77 km from Col du Bonhomme to Vieil-Armand) is one of the most beautiful mountain roads in France: panoramas of the Plain of Alsace, the Black Forest and the Alps on clear days, high pastures (mountain pastures, high pastures of Hohneck and Markstein), farm-inns (marcaire meal — Vosges pie, farm munster cheese, blueberries, fir syrup) and mythical passes (Col de la Schlucht, Col du Grand Ballon). A romantic road trip at altitude.
The Vosges lakes form a string of glacial jewels: Lac de Gérardmer (the largest), Lac de Longemer (crystalline waters, meadows), Lac de Retournemer (surrounded by forests, waterfall), Lac des Corbeaux (dark and mysterious, fir trees). Tour of the lakes on foot or by bike, swimming in summer, contemplation in autumn (flamboyant colors): a unique setting of water and forests.
Vittel (650 ha thermal park, Belle Époque architecture, golf, casino), Contrexéville (thermal baths, Pavillon des Sources) and Plombières-les-Bains (Roman, Napoleonic and contemporary thermal baths — town where Italian unity was decided in 1858, picturesque alleys, Vosges candy) offer elegant and revitalizing thermalism. An ideal well-being setting to complement your love room.
The Ballon d'Alsace (1,247 m, 360° panorama of the Alps, the Jura and the Black Forest, Nature Reserve) and the Grand Ballon (1,424 m, highest point of the Vosges) are the emblematic peaks of the massif. The Ballons des Vosges regional natural park (3,000 km², forests, peat bogs, waterfalls, chamois, lynx) offers a preserved hiking and nature setting.
