La Flèche Zoo — Safari Lodge & Suite: sleeping in the heart of the animal park

There are some nights unlike any other. The ones spent at La Flèche Zoo, falling asleep a few meters from a Sumatran tiger or a polar bear, are among them. Nestled in the heart of Sarthe, in the Pays de la Loire region, this exceptional animal park is not just a family destination: it is also one of the most unique unusual accommodations in France for couples seeking an extraordinary getaway.

Love Room Zoo de La Flèche

La Flèche Zoo, France's first private zoo

Founded in 1946 by naturalist Jacques Bouillault on the Tertre-Rouge hill, La Flèche Zoo is the first private zoological park opened in France after the war. Today ranked among the five most beautiful animal parks in the country, it hosts nearly 1,500 animals representing 160 species spread over 21 hectares of lush vegetation, between African savanna, tropical forest, Asian plain, and Arctic tundra. Known to the general public thanks to the documentary series Une Saison au Zoo, broadcast on France 4 from 2014 to 2022, the park crossed the threshold of 440,000 annual visitors in 2017, establishing itself as the leading tourist site in the Sarthe department.

Giraffes, Indian rhinoceroses, Sumatran tigers, white lions, Arctic wolves, polar bears, lemurs, chimpanzees, cheetahs… the diversity of species housed in 59 themed areas makes it a true animal world tour, less than 2.5 hours from Paris via the A11 motorway, between Le Mans and Angers.

Safari Lodge & Suite: an unusual night facing the animals

Since 2013, La Flèche Zoo has offered an experience that radically transforms the visit: sleeping directly in the park, in a private lodge or suite built facing the animal enclosures. This concept, called Safari Lodge & Suite, now includes 28 lodges and 12 suites, each with its own universe, themed decor, and large panoramic bay windows facing the wild animals.

Several universes are available according to preferences:

  • Great North: night facing polar bears, Arctic wolves, or Siberian grizzlies
  • Africa: lodges facing white lions or cheetahs
  • Asia: immersion in the Indonesian forest, facing Sumatran tigers
  • Madagascar: island of lemurs, tropical and cozy atmosphere
  • Savanna: giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and gemsboks before your eyes at sunrise

Some animals — white lions in particular — are only visible from the lodges, and not from the park during the day. An exclusivity that further reinforces the unique character of the experience.

Exceptional accommodation for couples

For two people seeking a romantic getaway off the beaten path, the Safari Lodges offer a rare intimacy. Each accommodation is private, carefully decorated in an adventure and nature spirit, and boasts an unobstructed view of the associated animal enclosure. The package generally includes park admission for two days, dinner, and breakfast served directly in the lodge — some packages even offer a gourmet meal prepared by the restaurant's chef facing the cheetahs.

Care begins upon arrival: personalized welcome, private access to the lodge area, and the possibility of extending the park visit one hour after its public closing — or entering one hour before opening the next morning. A privilege reserved only for lodge residents, which gives the evening and morning a particularly immersive dimension.

For what occasions should you choose the Safari Lodge?

Accommodation at La Flèche Zoo is naturally suited for occasions that deserve an exceptional setting: a couple's anniversary, a marriage proposal, a Valentine's Day getaway, or simply the desire to experience something new together. Combining a night in a lodge with the Zookeeper for a Day activity — an immersion of several hours alongside the animal care teams — allows for a complete stay that is both exotic, moving, and memorable.

La Flèche Zoo is accessible from Le Mans in 50 minutes, from Angers in 45 minutes, and from Paris in 2.5 hours via the A11. The park is open all year round, with some exceptions in January.
