Father Joseph no doubt advised Richelieu to acquire the Abbey of Moreilles, located between the bishopric of Luçon and La Rochelle.

It is known that Father Joseph had established a network of "informer" monks throughout the kingdom. This acquisition of the Abbey of Moreilles, as well as those of 5 other important abbeys, allowed Richelieu to quickly increase his fortune, and thus his power.

From Bishop of Luçon, Richelieu became Prime Minister of Louis XIII. 12 years later, Father Joseph undoubtedly also participated in Richelieu's reflections when he exchanged the Abbey of Moreilles in a three-way transaction in exchange for the Abbey of Cîteaux, the seat of the Cistercian order.
